Bubur Asyura in da House... our version...

Bubur Asyura (BA) is one of my awaited home-made dish, yearly... Besides kuah kacang n rendang..

There may be several versions of BAs... savory or sweet... depends on the state and origin..

As for ours, it originates from Alor Setar, Kedah... Initially, we were at Alor Setar several years back. Coincidentally, one of the days of our trip falls on 10th Muharram.. We were at Taman Muhibbah of Jalan Sultanah then... For every Asyura, the ladies will gather to make BA.. They'll collect money, buy the raw material, process it and started the making of BA - gotong royong concept!!! Siap kawah besar segala.. Once it's done, they'll placed it on a big round tray - underlined with banana leaves.. Then they distributed it accordingly...

Sucha cool concept, kannn... Do excuse my 'jakun-ness' as i hardly experience those culture, here...

It was a cool experience for all of us... Therefore, mum took the recipe and adapt it as our yearly do... But there are changes made as we did ourselves at home and we placed in plastic container, which convenient for distributions...

These are the ingredient that we normally use... Clockwise from the can are kidney bean, sweet potatoes, red beans, green beans (kacang ijo), yam, purple yam (not sure the actual name but sedap) and a type of soy like bean... Cukup 7 kn... If x cukup, we'll substitute to corn, banana, sagoo or anything that goes well with other ingredient.. xkan nk letak dageng or cheese kot... lol

All ingredient are cooked first... Or else it'll be cooked unevenly... Then all are added to the main ingredient which is tepung beras, corn floor, gula melaka along with other ingredients... The which mixture are initially caer, needs to be stirred till it's really thick.. This is certainly not an easy process as the thicker it is, the heavier it will be...

Once it is really cooked and well done, it is placed to the containers, accordingly...

Yumm yummmm...

Do ignore the calories, content of carbs, sugars n such once these are consumed... enuff said..

Our Favorite Murtabak

Amongst all the murtabak that are sold in bazar ramadhan, there is this murtabak that i love so much... It's available at bazar Ramadhan sec 13, Shah Alam. We've always been looking forward everytime Ramadhan arrive. Not sure how long it's been there, but we've been consuming it since 2005 or 2006.

Ramai gak try 2 imitate, but it's definitely not the same... Been so long, we notice the difference...

The queue are normally long... One could spend around 10-15 minutes during peak hours.. But if dah dekat buka, it won't be so bad... These guys had always been there eversince :)

2 us, this murtabak is not the same with ordinary murtabak (except for murtabak Singapore of coz). The size is slightly bigger and the fillings are more. If one bites it, one can easily feel the meat and egg.. yummy... It comes in either chicken or mutton. The price is slightly more than normal murtabak.

Juz have a look at the ingredients... Chicken / mutton mixture, onion and eggs...

According to our observation, they are mixed together and cooked first. Unlike the normal murtabak whereby they'll wrap everything onto the skin and cooked together...

Once the filling are done, they will bring it to the skin and pan fry for the second time. Guess this is what made the murtabak special... Well, the skin is sangat nipis... So it's more to filling compared to skin...

Yummy... yummyyyyyyy :)

Balloons for Adam

This is squeal of my previous post. I wanted to get something for Adam whom was in SJMC but i i was running out of time. It was already 6 pm and i need something nice n quick as i'm sure the traffic is not that friendly at this time.

What's important is something to cheer him up - that's my main point. Then i remembered balloons. So i dropped by a balloon shop at Sec 9 Shah Alam, hoping to get something nice here.

There were so many types of balloons here. With different colours. Mostly for fun and inscripted Happy Birthday. Of coz, those are not suitable. Wanted to get a Get Well Soon but it wasn't really nice.. So I choose 3 ballons... Didn't know what's his fav. colour so i juz randomly pick blue, light blue and purple - to break the colours...

He filled the balloons with helium gas, so it will stand aloft for around 48 hours indoor, according the boy. The he tied it to a ribbon that matches the colour of the ballons...

Then he asked me if i wanted it to be individual or bouquet it together... I then asked him 2 bouquet it as it will be handy. I guess the individual balloons will be appropriate for party, as u need to scatter those ballons around for decoration purposes.

Once it's beeen tied together, they put this washer (pemberat) at the edge. It's for the ballons to stand still, or else it'll go as high as the ceiling... Tetiba teringat Mr. Bean laks... lol... Then they tied this holder to the ribbon to make it easy to hold the ballons and it wouldn't be too long, as it'll be difficult to handle.

Voila.... It's ready to go...

I then carried the balloons all around SJMC. Dah la tersalah wing, went to the North (old) wing instead of the other one. Everyone were looking at me especially the kids. Aiyooo.... but managed to get a snap in the elevator... hehhehe... As i was about to enter Adam's room, i heard a nurse saying the patient will surely recover once they got the balloons...

But it was worth the hassle carrying the balloons... Guess the nurse was right. It surely does cheer Adam up... Really glad he loved it... I put it at the corner of the room as i didn't wanna bother anyone but he asked his Mum to bring it to him... Awwww..... That's cuteeeee...

Well, i guess... It's the small thing that matters :)
